I have no idea why I keep this blog up. Nostalgia, I suppose. I’m still kicking.

The beauty of living in the sticks is you get the best of ALL worlds. First, I get to spend the entire weekend snowmobiling….

Saturday night I was out on the bike (it got down to 25 F at the end, but it was clear. Big day Sunday. We built a ton of hive frames and boiled the last of the sap down. We ended up with over a gallon. MUCH better than I thought we’d do with so few buckets and starting so late. Next year is going to be much better, now that I have a plan and some experience.
Then I looked at the weather. So much for the rest of my outside projects. SNOW! So there it ends. Hopefully next weekend is better. I have a trip planned that will leave me way behind the 8 ball if I don’t get shit done early.

It’s finally spring! The chickens are finally getting out into the yard. We’re boiling maple sap as fast as we can. The work load has dramatically increased.
We have big plans for the homestead this year. We’re adding a large garden, bee hives, and clearing land. We’re hoping to do two runs of broilers this year, 20 birds each. We’re going to add laying hens and maybe a few turkeys for fall.
Living in the sticks is a never ending work cycle, but raising and eating your own HEALTHY food is worth the effort.
